Week 6 Done

Week 6 Done

Hey Everyone,

Thanks to everyone for all the support I’ve received since my last blog post and since the start of the DTS.

This week has been a good week, we had the base leader Tania speaking to us about relationships and we also found out what sort of work we will be doing on our outreaches.

Last Sunday most of the students, including myself, visited a fantastic Samoan church (the service was in English) just a few minutes away from the YWAM base. The members of the church were all extremely welcoming. The whole service was awesome but the worship, in particular, was brilliant!

The lecture topic this week was ‘relationships’. We were taught quite a lot about the need to have holy relationships in our lives. We spoke about both romantic relationships and normal relationships between friends and family. In both relationships we should include God in the relationships.

We spoke about the need to honour, not just respect, our parents. The difference between respect and honour for me is respect is based on a persons achievments or qualities while honour isn’t. We should honour our parents not for bringing us up well but just for giving us life. This means that our view of our parents shouldn’t change depending on how they treat us.

One of the points that got my attention as a single person was that ‘I lack nothing by being single’. While single I can find out the call God has on my life better and act on these callings more than I would if I was in a relationship.

We spoke about the need to never hate another person, but to love each other just as God loves us. It says in 1 John 4:19-21 that if we hate another person we cannot love God.

We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. – 1 John 4:19-21

On Wednesday all the students found out what we will be doing on our outreaches. For the Byron Bay and Vanuatu outreach we will be taking a 10 hour drive up north to Byron Bay on December 27th. While there we will be staying at the YWAM base and I and the rest of the Sports DTS will be helping run a summer camp. Play sports during the day and during the evening leading meetings.

On January 9th the Byron Bay team will be flying out to Vanuatu to begin our outreach there. While there we will be staying at the YWAM base and then will hike to various villages. We will be teaching sports, dance, teaching on a mini DTS. We may be helping to build roads and homes too.

If you would like to find out more information on what’s happening please email me.
